Jolly Pirates
This morning snorkeling tour begins at the pier near Moomba Beach. When we first got on, the crew were entertaining. To my dismay, it was a no smoking cruise! There were three stops, Malmok, Boca Catalina Reefs and the German Shipwreck Antilla. Malmok was very shallow water with a lot of fish to see. We saw masses of silverside and triggerfish, yellow tang and the Queen fish, which has the color and intensity of a spark, schools of tropical fish, sea urchins, and star fish.
Boca Catalina Reefs we swam beside schools of yellow striped grunts and the colorful Sergeant – Major Damsel Fish which are plentiful. This water was deaper and we had the opportunity to see angel fish, bright green parrot fish and grouper fish! It was amazing!
German Shipwreck Antilla was Sunk by its own Captain and Crew at the start of WWII- thus preventing it from falling into enemy hands – this 400 foot German Freighter significantly sits on the ocean floor in 60 feet of water in such a way that a portion of its hull and masts protrude impressively up and out of the sea. Snorkeling this close to this ship in the crystal clear quality of Aruba’s waters was exciting! You can see hundreds of species of fish zig-zagging in and out of the wreck.
After snorkeling we had lunch. It was good. We had chicken, ribs, red rice and salad.
