Grand Cayman A Beautiful Island

First sited by Christopher Columbus the Cayman Islands can boast itself as a major international financial center thanks to the notable fact it has more registered businesses than it does people. Don’t let business distract you from the beauty of this tropical paradise. Consisting of three islands, the Caymans are a haven for snorkelers and scuba enthusiasts alike. Whether it’s a swim with stingrays or a dive to explore the remains of one its several shipwrecks, the Caymans offer plenty for the water enthusiast. For a more laid back experience, visit Seven Mile Beach, on which a number of the islands hotels and resorts are located. The Cayman Islands are a must for the person looking for it all. Come and experience everything offered by this lush tropical paradise.

To most of the world, Grand Cayman is the Cayman Islands, a glitzy shopping mecca and global financial center where resorts line the fabulous white-sand Seven Mile Beach and the wealthy from around the world spend time sipping cocktails and discreetly playing with their millions. It does have another side – literally – and if you head east, you can escape the mobs.

Everything in the Cayman Islands is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!! So expect pay top dollar for everything from transportation to meals to lodging to activities. There is no gambling in the Cayman Islands.

I have been to the Cayman Islands four times. Three times on Cruise ships and once on my honeymoon. On our honey moonwe stayed at the Beach Club Colony Hotel and Dive Resort, which was at that time the only all inclusive resort on 7 mile beach. We choose this hotel because it was all inclusive having traveled to Cayman Islands and heard people talking about $60 – $75 pizzas and other ridiculous prices like $20 for a Whopper at Burger King. The hotel was clean but plain, not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. But the beach was spectacular!! Seven Mile Beach is absolutely gorgeous!! It gets crowded when the cruise ships come in however we had a great time!

The optimal times to travel to the Cayman Islands is during the winter (November to March) when daytime temperatures average 72-80° with generally clear skies and calm seas. The occasional nor’wester blows through during the winter, bringing cool winds and rough seas on the north and west coasts. You may need a sweater or light jacket for cooler evenings in the winter.

The summer months (May to October) coincide with the rainy season. Average temperatures range from 80-88°, with July and August being the hottest months. Humidity is also higher in summer but occasional heavy showers can be a welcome relief from the heat. The islands are cooled by prevailing trade winds, but the sun is HOT and we advise always to wear sunscreen, a shady hat and sunglasses. Please take the sun in small doses to avoid sunburn. Sea temperatures average 78° in the winter and go up to 85º during the summer.
